René's Walk is a 1min 40 sec long film. It has a fixed camera angle looking out from a window at a scenery consisting of a walking road in front and behind it a river with trees on the other shore and cloudy sky above. A person walks slowly from right to left across the screen and this defines the length of the film. At the same time the scenery around goes from day to night, the water on the river and the clouds in the sky moves unnaturally fast. Shadows pass above and below the road where the person walks, and the streetlight turns on. The film is roughly digitally made in aftereffects. This gives a realistic feeling of the surreal. The person walks in real time and the surroundings are speeded up so that 1,5 min contains 1,5 hours. It is an existentialistic film about absence or maybe total presence in time. |
